POPULAR PEDRO

The most popular photograph in the Mike Hayward Collection just happens to be Mike’s personal favourite - a dramatic shot of Pedro Rodriguez on opposite lock at a streaming wet Brands Hatch BOAC 1000k in 1970.

This image has sold countless times and has appeared on the front cover of Motor Sport magazine.

It was also used by renowned water colourist Jeremy Mallard as the basis for a stunning limited edition work called The Slide Show.

“My memories of that day are of getting unbelievably wet,” says Mike.“It was awe-inspiring to see Pedro throwing the Gulf Porsche 917 around the track, and the spectators at Druid’s Hairpin were obviously equally impressed as can be seen by the looks on their faces in the photograph.

“Pedro was always spectacular to photograph, and that’s why there are so many images of him in the collection.”
